Dark state suppression and narrow fluorescent feature in a laser-driven Λ atom

چکیده
We discuss quantum interference effects in a three-level atom in Λ-configuration, where both transitions from the upper state to the lower states are driven by a single monochromatic laser field. Although the system has two lower states, quantum interference is possible because there are interfering pathways to each of the two lower states. The additional interference terms allow for interesting effects such as the suppression of a dark state which is present without the interference. Finally we examine a narrow spectral feature in the resonance fluorescence of the atom with quantum interference.

Spontaneous Emission Spectrum from a Driven Three-Level Atom in a Double-Band Photonic Crystal
Abstract The spontaneous emission spectrum from a driven three-level atom placed inside a double-band photonic crystal has been investigated. We use the model which assumes the upper levels of the atomic transition are coupled via a classical driving field. The transition from one of the upper levels to lower level couples to the modes of the modified reservoir, and the transition from the oth...

Recently there has been interest in the use of the laser slowed and trapped atoms for the development of high-accuracy atomic clocks.'` For slow-atom clocks, employing separated field excitation, the use of a Raman transition may have advantages over direct microwave excitation.4 6 This is because the two-zone Raman interaction has the demonstrated ability to reverse the sign of the ac Stark sh...
متن کاملPhysical Interpretation of Laser-Induced Suppression of Quantum Tunneling
One of the most interesting features of a Λ-type quantum system (a system with two lower states and one upper state) driven by two laser fields is the appearance of a dark eigenstate of the system under conditions of two-photon resonance [1,2]. The dark state is a linear combination of only the two lower states of the system, and not the excited state. Dark states also exist in systems where in...
متن کاملCold-Strontium Laser in the Superradiant Crossover Regime
Today’s narrowest linewidth lasers are limited by mirror motion in the reference optical resonator used to stabilize the laser’s frequency. Recent proposals suggest that superradiant lasers based on narrow dipoleforbidden transitions in cold alkaline earth atoms could offer a way around this limitation. Such lasers operating on transitions with linewidth of order mHz are predicted to achieve ou...
